The Mucnich based animal doctor Dr. Peter Sperling (Max Müller) takes his son Bastian (Sebastian Marx) to Mittenwald. Father and son intend to spend their vacation at Peter‘s mother Erika (Antje Hagen). She is also an animal doctor and Peter is planning to help her while they stay with Erika.
At the same time two black bears have been stolen from a traveling circus and are moved to Mittenwald, where the criminal animal merchant Hermann Wulpringer (Robert Giggenbach) tries to sell the bears illegally. While the little bear is caged in his mother manages to escape into the forest.
When cows and sheep show up dead in the mountains surrounding Mittenwald Park Ranger Max Färber (Peter Weiß) and the local farmers suspect a fierce Rottweiler to be the culprit and put him to sleep. Peter, however, realizes by looking at the killer’s tracks, that a bear is responsible for the blood bath.
In the meantime Peter‘s mother tells her son about her plan to sell her practice to real estate tycoon Günter Vernberg (Fritz von Triedel). Peter discourages her to da that because he plans to move to Mittenwald and take over the animal practice. Pretty neighbor Carola Wegener (Maren Schumacher) encourages this move. However, Carola has also caught Wulpringer’s eye and interest. When Carola learns about Wulpringer‘s methods of doing business though, she terminates any contact with him. Soon after that Sperling‘s new practice burns down...
