John Clevens (Günter Pfitzmann), a big real estate company’s boss, meets his girlfriend Ellen (Barbara Schöne) every Wednesday in Ellen’s gorgeous garden apartment in Manhattan. She is really proud of her place. John is a business man and always out for a buck: That’s why he puts the apartment on the marke. An unsuspecting secretary offers the apartment to a young professional from out of town: Cass Henderson (Herbert Herrmann), who wants to talk to John urgently, meets Ellen in the apartment and soon figures out what is going on. John’s suspicious wife Dorothy (Liselotte Pulver) also shows up at the apartment and from what she sees believes that Ellen and Cass are married. The two of them play along to cover for John. But Dorothy soon figures out the truth and wants a divorce. When John moves in with Ellen she realizes that living with him is different from what she expected. Cass Henderson turns out to be a great friend in and it soon dawns on Ellen who she will be with in the future.
