Klaus Berger (Michael Roll) is a journalist and manages the local news department of the daily newspaper in Erfurt. Since his wife died tree years ago he is a single dad to his daughter Anna (Maria Ehrich). Both of them still suffer from their loss but try to hide their sadness from each other. Klaus is worried about Anna because she seems so rational and serious. Besides he has problems at his office, since budget cuts are causing increased pressure.
While he is torn between job and childcare he meets Judith Wagner (Christina Plate). Judith is a self confident, attractive and successful lawyer. Anna does not like her at all until they discover that they have the same hobby. What Klaus and Anna do not know is that Judith is critically ill. Can she still be a good mom for Anna?
