Petty criminal August König (Hans Teuscher) is the self-proclaimed „King“ of a Berlin wholesale food market. The depiction of his somewhat unkosher wheelings and dealings are the bottom line of this series. August König dares to act out what we would like to be able to do but never dare to even try.
„Der Nelkenkönig“ is a crime-story set in a family environment. This means that all variations of love, greed, jealousy and other basic human emotions are woven into the story-line.
The Berlin wholesale food market is the location from where the story takes off. Tough business is done here, sometimes not really legal, competition is deadly. In this somewhat acidic environment our hero August König uses a trick to do business: he sells his blue tinted flowers as a special „American brand”. But he is not only the king over flowers, but also any kind of food and vegetables for display. And while he juggles his business pursuits he does not fail to neglect the most important thing in life: love
