The highly acclaimed surgeon Dr. Alexander West (Jan Niklas) works at a Berlin hospital. His colleagues value his special skills and professionalism; however they suffer from the battles he has to fight in his private life. He is headed for divorce because his wife Dagmar (Ute Christensen) doesn’t feel their marriage has a future. Even though Alexander still loves her, he respects her decision.
He hit rock bottom when his wife is killed in a hit and run accident. The police who are investigating the case find apparent evidence that leads to Dr. Alexander West. Detective Watzke (Gert Haucke) is convinced that West killed his wife, since the broken marriage serves as solid evidence in his view. He wants to put the doctor behind bars.
On the way to court West manages to escape which solidifies detective Watzke’s verdict. In order to find evidence which prove his innocence West elopes to his wife’s appartment. He is surprised to find a newspaper journalist there,Maria Dennert (Hannelore Elsner) who Dagmar got in touch with before her death. Dagmar wanted to give her a CD with secret information relating to illegal Organ trade.
Obviously the CD was her death sentencel. West feels more and more helpless and a victim of a set-up. He is desperate and contacts his old friend Daniel (Sebastian Koch), who offers him a place to stay. It turns out though, that Daniel is involved in the crime. He has West get kidnapped. In the meantime Maria tries to figure out what is encripted in the CD. That information is the key to her story and the only way to prove West’s innocence. But the kidnappers can’t have any potential leaks. Marie’s life is in danger…
